As part of this package, local ordinances to raise minimum wage would be
disallowed (including the Milwaukee and Madison ordinances discussed
below).
The mayor of Milwaukee, Tom Barrett, signed a bill to
raise the minimum wage on March 3, 2005. Keep in mind that this was not
a state law, but just a local Milwaukee law that effects only Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee law will raise the minimum wage there from
$5.15 per hour to $5.70 per hour on
October 1, 2005.
The wage will rise again from $5.70 per hour to $6.50 per hour on
October 1, 2006.
